MUSIC AND Healing
music as a guide
Music became another part of my healing journey in ways I never expected.
Throughout the past seven years, music often arrived as a guide. Certain songs would appear repeatedly at specific moments in my healing, almost as though my subconscious was trying to draw my attention towards something I wasn't yet fully able to see.
It was never necessarily about what the song meant on the surface, but about the deeper message hidden within the lyrics, and how those words reflected exactly where I was on my own journey and what I needed to understand next.
Sometimes music comforted me. Sometimes it challenged me. Sometimes it revealed truths I wasn't ready to hear.
Looking back now, I can see that many of those songs became milestones within my healing.
finding my own voice
Alongside this, I began creating my own music in 2018.
After spending countless hours sitting beside my husband Gary while he produced music, I realised I had a genuine passion for songwriting and music production too.
What started as curiosity quickly became another creative outlet during one of the most challenging periods of my life.
Between 2019 and 2022, I wrote and produced songs that mirrored the exact journey I was living through. Every lyric reflected something I was healing, processing or remembering.
At the time I didn't fully realise what I was creating.
Looking back now, I can see that every song became another chapter of the same story that would eventually become She Who Fell.
Writing music became a way of expressing emotions that words alone couldn't reach.
It allowed feelings that had been trapped inside my nervous system for decades to finally have a voice.
the soundtrack behind she who fell
In many ways, the music and She Who Fell are chapters of the same story.
Throughout the book I reference both my own songs and songs written by Gary because they became part of my healing language. Alongside those are many other artists whose music arrived at exactly the moments I needed it most.
Some songs helped me grieve. Some helped me remember. Some helped me understand what my body had been trying to communicate all along. When I created the live launch experience for She Who Fell, those songs naturally became woven throughout the evening.
Through playlists, live performances and carefully chosen moments, the music carried the emotional journey of the book.
It moved from loss, through collapse, through remembrance, through healing, and finally into hope, voice reclamation, joy and expansion.

the soundtrack of the book

The songs woven throughout She Who Fell. Some are referenced directly within the pages, while others became quiet companions during the writing process. Together they form another way of experiencing the story beyond the words.

what's next
After taking a break from writing and releasing music whilst moving through the deepest healing of my life, I now feel myself returning to it once again.
The next chapter won't simply be about creating new songs. It will also be about bringing the earlier music back into the present. Much of what I wrote between 2019 and 2022 belongs alongside She Who Fell. Those songs no longer feel like fragments of the past. They feel ready to become part of the story they were always helping to tell.
My hope is to release an album that brings those songs together with new work, including Unbound - a track that quietly began emerging during the a chapter of my healing journey.
Just like the book, the music continues to evolve. And so do I.
